Youth Bands And Music Programs
Mountaintop Music Institute offers youth band programs for serious young musicians ages 12–18 throughout Utah. Students audition for ensembles based on their age, experience, interests, and instrumentation, then rehearse and perform together in professional-style bands. Our programs include rock, pop, jazz, funk, soul, and big band ensembles. Listed below are the groups that we offer.

Join us as we celebrate the rich traditions of big band music through captivating sounds of Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Ella Fitzgerald and more. Whether you're a fan of classic tunes or new to the genre, our band promises an unforgettable musical experience!
Streetlight Syndicate
Top 40s/Pop
Streetlight Syndicate is where creativity and passion collide! Comprised of talented musicians aged 15-18, they are dedicated to bringing contemporary music styles like, Pop, Funk, Soul, and Rock to life. Opportunities to perform these styles of music with other dedicated and musicians helps enable them to perform more and go further than the typical "garage band."
The Ridgeline Big Band
Classic Big Band
Ridgeline Big Band keeps the timeless sound of the classic big band tradition alive through the performances of today’s young musicians. Featuring saxophones, trumpets, trombones, rhythm section, and vocalists, the ensemble explores the music of legendary big bands while developing the precision, dynamics, listening skills, and ensemble awareness required to play jazz at a high level. From swinging classics to iconic arrangements, Ridgeline Big Band brings the excitement of the big band era to a new generation.
Iridium Stateroom
Jazz Combo
Iridium Stateroom is an advanced jazz combo featuring young musicians who are ready to take their improvisation and performance skills to the next level. With a focus on jazz standards, creative improvisation, ensemble interaction, and authentic jazz performance, the group challenges its members to listen, respond, and create music in the moment. Iridium Stateroom represents the next generation of serious young jazz musicians.
The Teal Tones
Jazz Improvisation
This class is aimed to help young musicians get knowledge and experience with jazz music by providing in depth theory, ear training, and combo performance opportunities. Our in person session time covers improv concepts, learning jazz standards and teaching young musicians how to perform in a combo setting (as opposed to a big band). Our hybrid model further enhances these concepts with custom made videos and instruction that can be viewed online, at home. This new and innovative approach to improvisation caters to musicians of all levels and provides a solid understanding of the art.
Stairway to Paradise
Classic Rock
Stairway to Paradise is a high-energy classic rock band from the Mountaintop Music Institute, bringing the legendary sounds of rock’s greatest artists to the stage. Featuring talented young musicians, the band performs iconic songs spanning decades of classic rock, from powerful guitar-driven anthems to unforgettable rock ballads. At Mountaintop Music Institute, these students are developing their musicianship, stage presence, and performance skills while gaining real-world experience performing as a working band. Stairway to Paradise is proof that the next generation of rock musicians is already here.
State Line Sunset
Country
State Line Sunset brings the energy, storytelling, and unmistakable sound of country music to the stage. This talented youth country band performs a mix of modern country hits and classic favorites, developing musicianship through real-world rehearsal and performance experience. From heartfelt ballads to high-energy country rock, State Line Sunset delivers a show built around great songs, strong musicianship, and the excitement of playing together as a band.
Midnight Psycho
Hard Rock/Metal
Midnight Psycho brings the power, intensity, and attitude of hard rock and metal to the stage. This high-energy youth band takes on everything from crushing guitar riffs and driving rhythms to soaring vocals and explosive solos. More than just learning songs, the musicians of Midnight Psycho develop the skills to perform with confidence, energy, and personality while experiencing what it takes to be part of a real rock band.
